Here you can find video, audio, articles, and more from active radio personnel on a variety of subjects related to what to say or do when you “crack the mic.”
Start by scripting your breaks!
Tom McAuliffe of MyFM 101.3 in Milford, MA offers this advice to novice on-air personalities - script your breaks!
It’s more than OK to script your breaks until you feel more comfortable ad-libbing on air. The key to scripted breaks is to make it SOUND like you’re speaking off the top of your head. Inflection, natural pauses, even some “ums” are OK as they mimic regular human speech.
Once you feel more comfortable recording your breaks move from a full script to a handful of bullet points you can touch on during the break.
